"Nothing exists except atoms and empty space; everything else is opinion." - Democritus
OPINION-- a belief stronger than impression and less strong than knowledge. In other words...something that doesn't really even exist, takes up a whole lot of space.
When I think about the best parts of my life, they have usually come from the worst situations.
I no longer worry about a rough landing ahead as something wonderful will eventually happen. That's an attitude I choose to take, no matter what...and it's where I find all the material I need to write my stories and teach my classes.
I knew a woman who was unhappy with her life circumstances. Her holiday meals were on card tables and lawn chairs as there was never enough money to have the lavish table she thought an event should have. She complained constantly. Then unexpectedly, she came into a fortune of money!
But something is gnawing away at her. She will never get a second chance. She can never erase the grumbling from her past which did not meet her ideal. She never learned appreciation and humility, and all her money can't buy it for her. Never let a chance go by -- bloom exactly where your circumstances have led you.
I keep my life simple by understanding two opposite concepts. The first is that everything which happens during the day is my ego's illusion -- madness, chaos, uncertainty, even in good times. The second is the miracle -- my ego's opposite. Where there was darkness, now I have light, confusion becomes wisdom, etc. The miracle overlooks the errors in myself and others. Where evil was...now there is holiness.
